My niece called me

to tell me that her mom, Judy., my half-sister (she's in her early 60's, from my father's first marriage; my niece is a year younger than I am), had been walking across an intersection at a green light and a car just plowed into her. Wow. Was syour niece calling to deliver this news, or to wish you a happy birthday? Here in Santa Monica I offer warm thought to your half-sister. If she's at St. John's, I can see her from my office window.

While I was writing that post to you, my cat, Jack, woke up from a nap and starting meowing frantically. I don't know if she had a bad dream or what, but she needed some serious petting and chin scratching. Now she's apparently forgotten the whole thing and is licking herself. Oh, to be a cat. A pampered cat.

So if my post was disjointed, blame Jack Sparrow.
