I'm going shopping tomorrow, apparently. Planning to get Havemercy by Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennet (yes, Jaida being ladyjaida of shoebox_project fame) at Barnes and Noble. I've heard wonderful review of it, so I'm quite looking forward to reading it. I'm also apparently taking advantage of Old Navy's $1 flip-flop sale, which is (I suppose) exciting. Oh, and then we're ( Read more... )

I've only read Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, but they were both amazing.

As for other books... And Then There Were None is really awesome. So is A Very Long Engagement. And The Bell Jar. And Feed (despite having strange proportions). And a bunch of others that I can't think of.

*replies to both comments in one fell swoop!*

But Slaughterhouse-Five is an English book for me next year, so I'll probably read it then, not now. I'll look into Cat's Cradle, cool!

I actually just read And Then There Were None (summer reading and all that). I think I have to get A Very Long Engagement JUST because the Amazon summary of it includes this sentence: They were, in civilian life, variously a pimp, a mechanic, a farmer, a carpenter, and a fisherman ... (but mainly the pimp bit). I think we might have The Bell Jar in my house, but I'll definitely read it. And Feed! I've been meaning to read that for ages! Do you think it's more of a library book though? Because I've been considering buying Maureen Johnson too, but I think that her books are more library books, and I'm not sure if Feed is too. Thoughts?

Kay says go look at Vonnegut's wikipedia. Somewhere in there, he grades all his books and it's pretty accurate. Some of the books he's tougher on himself than Kay is, like Breakfast for Champions is more of a B- than C-. But, yes. I'd get the ones that he grades A.

Laur says Jodi Picoult. Nineteen Minutes is really good, albeit a bit creepy. Plain Truth is meh. Tenth Circle is amazing, if I remember correctly, which I think I do. My Sister's Keeper is really sad, and wasn't my favorite. Picture Perfect was...meh. I wouldn't bother with that one. And I think that's all I read? I'm not sure though.

That is possibly the BEST THING I have EVER SEEN. Ever. It makes me feel good that I was going to get Cat's Cradle (A+ ftw!).

Plain Truth is meh.
I was actually a huge fan of Plain Truth. I guess it's personal preference. Plus, it inspired a good 'in my pants' joke (with a bit of twisting ... ) - 'Plain folk in my pants. No, wait! That would be bad!' I shall definitely pick up Nineteen Minutes and Tenth Circle at the library tomorrow. Thanks!
