Random, rather rambling post about me and fandom

Jul 03, 2007 21:22

Today, I was reading back entries in metafandom, and there was some post from a while ago about at what point a fandom becomes 'dead', and another about how FanLib isn't doing anything for older fandoms. Now, my opinions on FanLib and dead fandoms belong in a different post, but I noticed that, in those discussions, they kept bringing up movies and ( Read more... )

A very nice post! dracschick July 4 2007, 01:58:31 UTC
It's nice to be in the smaller fandoms sometimes because then you don't feel you 'get lost in the crowd'. Sort of like choosing a small college over a big one.

We love you too! :D

Yeah, seriously -- I don't think we're dead at all. Just quieter than the current TV types.

Yay! :D

Agreed. There are also very few of us, so even if we jumped up and down and screamed, people might not notice. ;) Besides, dead is such a...final word. Many of these fandoms have survived for centuries. I don't think a dearth of fansites will kill them.

:D Also we miss Morgan.

*snickers* So true! Somehow they muddled through before the advent of the internet, after all. ;)

And Morgan misses you too! Sort of. In a weird way. I'm just not quite sure what to do with her.

I think this means that Eleanor of Aquataine is a BNF in our fandom. One of those diehard Lancelot/Guenevere supporters, of course. ;)

I love the Woman in White fandom, and the fact that none of us seem to ever aknowledge our favorite musical's negative reviews.

Amen, and if we do, somehow we are all knowing as to exactly what needs to be done to fix whatever was being criticized, if only Webber would call us....

I'd say some of these are rather sweeping statements.

I would undoubtedly call myself a Vampire Chronicles fan and I love the original canon. Many of the other fans I know also feel the same way.

And Woman in White? Huge fan, but I can more that appreciate the negative reviews it got.

They weren't intended to be entirely serious, but rather more of joking observations about general trends I've seen in these fandoms. And I believe that pretty much everyone in the VC fandom loves the original canon (otherwise, why would we be in the fandom?) but one of the things that I've noticed about that fandom as a whole is a willingness to make fun of/criticize the original canon as well, which is rather unique. I'm very sorry if I offended you in any way.

No, gosh no you didn't offend me. I was really tired when I replied, I should have probably waited.

I meant more.. I think.. the trouble with fandoms is they all do tend to get tarred with the same brush, even when that isn't the case.
