I've been thinking about Oscar Hammerstein II. This is because I just saw the movie version of Carmen Jones yesterday (which sometimes was very effective and sometimes felt forced), and it made me consider his portrayal of race and ethnicity throughout his career.

Constantly having the songs from Assassins in your head for a weekend really makes the world look slightly different.

For the span of about a day, I was inadvertently living in a made up world where Kiss Me Kate was a really bad adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing. What a relief to return to the real world.

Julie Andrews singing "Could I Leave You?" from Follies is fairly close to genius. Can we all agree on that here?

While at the library I found a DVD of the Broadway production of Jekyll and Hyde, entitled David Hasselhoff in Jekyll and Hyde. As I apparently have masochistic impulses, I borrowed it.
