"Jekyll and Hyde" - Broadway Production

Oh, Frank Wildhorn. You're insane.

While at the library I found a DVD of the Broadway production of Jekyll and Hyde, entitled David Hasselhoff in Jekyll and Hyde. As I apparently have masochistic impulses, I borrowed it.

It's so bad. Really, amazingly bad. And not just David Hasselhoff. The entire production is so terrible that it seems to exist ( Read more... )

Oh, I'm a Dracula fan. I'm used to enjoying terrible adaptations of things I like. ;)

XD I love how, even when he stabs the stabby cane of death straight through someone's throat it always stays clean and shiny.

I hate Hasselhoff and the Broadway Jekyll and Hyde always had flaws, but I was and still am utterly in love with musical old-timers of George Merritt as Utterson and Barrie Ingham as Sir Danvers. They stuck it out through all the ups and downs. My favorite Jekyll was Rob Evan.

He splashed hair goo on me when I was in the front row one day (and recognized me when we stage-doored coz of my Enjolrais red vest I was wearing since we were going to see Les Miz for the evening performance).

Barrie Ingham really did impress me, which was surprising - I normally find Sir Danvers really very boring. But George Merritt confused me a bit, probably just because I'm not used to seeing Utterson played that old and I don't really like him as Narrator - it worked in the novella, but the musical is just so different.

Oh, well that would be memorable! And I did wonder how much hair goo all Jekyll/Hydes must wear, what with changing their hair style every five seconds.

Awesome. I may have to watch just for the hilarity. Actually, I think David Hasslehoff as Jekyll/Hyde may be the only thing to cure me of my crush on Hyde.

...Maybe I don't want to watch it...

But it sounds SO wonderfully bad.

Oh, you'll be fine - just listen to the complete concept recording's "Dangerous Game" or "Alive" or something afterwords. It's worth it for the hilarity of this production. I'd give more details but it's really indescribable.

Also, while watching it I had a completely random Jekyll and Hyde/Dracula/Oliver Twist crossover plot idea that made me think of you and Ripped so much.

Alright, I'll watch it.

Do tell about this completely random crossover plot! We may have to do it. If the damned epic Nancy and Hyde plot gets moving again gah. But regardless, I'm very, very intrigued.

...I feel sort of guilty for bringing it upon you.

Well, it would never work in RPG unless I created my own complicated Dracula backstory thing, and that would be a bit of a headache. But I was watching "Good and Evil" and basically had a train of thought that went: "Mina would never survive as a prostitue. It's good that she'll never end up in that situation. Well...that would be sort of interesting to write. She'd have to meet Lucy, of course. Because of the irony of the name. And the idea of her talking to Hyde at all. And who else could she meet? Oh, NANCY! With the parallels! And "Girls of the Night"!...that would make a really good story.

...And it's so much like Ripped."

But, regardless, I need to attempt to actually do something on Ripped.
