I've noticed that many, many people here who I respect greatly loved this movie, and thought it was utterly wonderful and exceeded their expectations and all those nice things. Now, I don't want to insult any of you, or hurt your feelings, but I simply must be honest here ( Read more... )

Oh thank God. Someone else who doesn't think this was the greatest movie ever made.

You're not the only one who thinks so. I've seen a couple other bad reviews on the friends page, one of which said that Depp's singing wasn't really even singing but more like talking with a slight change of tone. The status quo pretty much has it that Depp didn't understand his character at all.

Which is surprising, since strong characterization is normally one of Depp's strengths. But it's true.

Sorry to hear that you liked it. I respect your opinion. However, for this very longtime fan, I got chills when Sweeney held up the razor. The emotional impact, including the ending without the chorus was amazing. Too bad all shows to movies are not this good.

Regarding Toby at the end - did you notice that he gained the Sweeney Todd eye make-up? I took that to mean that he had been changed, gone insane, etc. Though I guess if it's not apparent to everyone, it doesn't really work.

I did not, though that would make the whole thing make more sense. It's surprising, though - Tim Burton's normally not one for overly subtle touches like that.
