So, Jubilee has happened and it all felt gloriously British from the flag waving to the incessant drizzle ( Read more... )

Question about your bees, do you do anything with the wax from their combs? (I am assuming you keep them for the honey rather than as pets.)

There have been some years when it feels like they've just been pets!! You never know what to expect from one season to another with bees.

We re-use everything which includes the wax although we haven't done anything other than make it into little rounds. I've been thinking about putting it into small beehive moulds to sell. We use the "cappings" which are a result of the honey extraction process to make Mead and any bits left on the honey frames go back to the bees to clean up. I must do the bee posts I keep promising. We've also volunteered to do a talk at Satellite 4 with props and photos etc.!!

I will, will, will post properly about bees - with photos!!

London will feature more and more in our little lives as we approach the SF Worldcon in 2014. I visited once when I was 9 but that was a long time ago!

I'd seen that you were doing things for Worldcon. Hurrah! I seem to have been roped in, too. I think it's going to be good.

I did like watching the flotilla, I must say. In particular, I want to shake the hand of whoever had the idea of putting church bells on a boat and floating them down the river - that was absolute genius. And I also enjoyed the pageantry and music of the Service of Thanksgiving, too.

"hugely jealous of those in London who could wander about and see so much going on"

You obviously don't get down here often. I spent about an hour on Sunday trying to get anywhere where I could even see the river. Evenutally gave up and came home to watch it on the telly (in the dry). There were a considerable number of bedraggled parents on my train home doing the same thing - their kids were pretty disappointed.

Yes, in some ways, it really *had* to be rainy, didn't it? :-) Seriously, I thought the celebrations were splendid. Not all of them were things I wanted to watch, but they made for a wonderful range of contributions from so many people.

Looking forward to hearing about both bees and chicks...
