Has anyone here seen the tv program Alphas, on Syfy? It looks like it only ran for 2 seasons, ending last year. I'm only through episode 4 at this point, but I was surprised not only to find one of the main characters was autistic (I usually try to stay pretty on top of portrayal of ASDs on TV), but the whole premise of differently-abled humans ( Read more... )

I watched that show. I was bummed that Syfy canceled the show after season 2.

It was really interesting show. I don't want to say too much in fear of spoiling you.

I loved that show! I hated it when it got cancelled because cliffhanger much?

Ryan Cartwright is an amazingly talented actor. I mean, he has to be an American and Autistic while portraying Gary!

Yeah it was a decent show. One of the main reasons was due to the performance of the actor who played the autistic...teenager? I think he was 17/18? He played it so well. I mean there were other good parts too, but that was probably the stand out. It was my perception that they made what would look like tics/stimming was actually him searching through radio waves, tv channels, etc.

The same actor played a role in Bones (that show used to be my "guilty pleasure") before, and I think he was quite "aspie" in Bones.

Watched the first season, and loved it. The themes and portrayals of ability and disability throughout the show as not only not mutually exclusive but inseparable was refreshing and wonderful to watch. I loved how character development was handled with Gary; he grows as a character, but not into NORMAL. I thought they handled him delicately and realistically. I just loved Gary period.
