Pain Memory

Do you experience hesitancy to do certain things because of the probability that you may hurt yourself and you can remember what said injury feels like? I find myself frequently nervous when performing certain physical tasks because I've hurt myself doing them before and anticipate the pain I would experience if I were to do so again. Oh, yes, very much so. I associate pain with previous injurious actions very easily. There are even movies I can't watch because I once watched them while in pain, and the pain returns when I try to see them again. I never thought other people had issues like this, though.

Happens to me all the time. But I have to push through it, or I wouldn't have a way to get to work, which would shortly lead to no job and no money.

Longer explanation: I was recently (seven months ago) hit by a car while crossing the street. In the crosswalk, while I had the right of way. Crossing the street now is fun, let me tell you. But that's where the bus stop is, so I go.

Not me!- to the point that my wife often expresses amazement. My usual answer is an acknowledgment that "I don't have a bit o' sense!"

Yeah. I have an oversensitive learning pattern or something. For instance, I once bent a fingernail backward getting clothes out of washer and am hesitant every time I flip the laundry. Also, I cut my finger opening a tub of margarine and approach them with caution now. On a more serious note, my car was struck from behind a couple of years ago, and I’ve only gotten behind the wheel twice since.

Yes... because I have developed a lot of pain sensitivity that I did not have when I was younger, and so I really have to push myself hard to do things that I really want to do, but that I know may hurt a bit.
