Curious about the Nintendo DS Lite (and hoping this isn't too off-topic).

For a while now, I've been thinking about getting a Nintendo DS Lite. Not directly knowing anyone who has one, I thought I'd ask about it here. For those of you with a DS Lite, are you happy with your purchase? What games do you recommend? What are the pros and cons of owning a DS Lite? Are there any accessories I should buy for it?

I got one for Christmas last year.

Pros
- Lites are back-compatible with GBA games, AND are region free, so a load of games can be imported.
- Backlight, which can be changed to 4 different brightness settings [I always have on brightness 2 even in the dark, maximum is way too bright for me and more power consuming]
- Lites are more comfortable than their hefty original counterparts

Cons
- It's so good, family members want to borrow it for days. :(
- Only so rarely, the stylus can be a tad unresponsive
- Too many horrible games aimed at preteen girls that I hope will never be released in the States, hiding away the best ones

Recommendations- WarioWare Touched: Takes full advantage of the stylus and mic, and with crack-up humour it'll get you hooked for weeks ( ... )

I don't have one, but I remember I saw that commercial for the cookbook program for the Nintendo DS. I said out loud, "DUDE! I want one!" It looked like the coolest thing ever!

I got one about a year and a half ago and am so happy I did. I can't think of any cons except that it would be nice if the screen were bigger, but that would likely necessitate making the entire thing bigger as well which would defeat the purpose of having a small portable game system ( ... )

Screen protectors.

You need them.

Replace them every 6 months if you use it a lot.

Styluses, you will need spares.

My 11yo daughter has one, loves it.

I actually would recommend AGAINST screen protectors unless you know where to get really good ones and/or you're that hard on your DS.

I don't use one with mine, and any marks on it are so faint they disappear when the device is actually on.

(ah, the explanation? One, the DS Lite closes tight on those screens, so there's very little room for them to begin with, and Two, I think they hinder playability more than they protect the screen because of how fast they scratch up and cloud up. Nintendo knows how to build machines, and the DS is hardier stuff than you'd think)

I picked up a DS Lite a week or so after the American release. Aside from a small crack in the hinge, it's still going strong. Hell, I've even pulled some impressive stunts at anime cons with mine, so you're in good company.

Any games actually made by Nintendo are safe bets; outside of that, you really need to do your research before buying a game.

Games I've enjoyed on the DS besides the usual Mario fare:
+ Puzzle Quest
+ Cooking Mama
+ Big Brain Academy
+ Final Fantasy Series

I also hear that "The World Ends with You" is good, but I've not played it yet.

And if none of that is appealing, the DS has a healthy homebrew community (or so I've been told).

As far as accessories go, I have a special stylus / screen cleaner combo I picked up at an anime con earlier this year, a wrist strap (a MUST!), and some form of a carrying case.
