Oh, I can understand that. I actually had a fairly elaborate mythology about being from Pluto, coming down to Earth while my mom was giving birth to her baby (me) and eating it with my feet.
As for being diagnosed, I think there could be benefits, though I'm not diagnosed yet myself. If you're interested I'd suggest reading the Wikipedia writeup on Asperger's. I don't know if it'll tell you anything useful. When I read it I was amazed how all the odd little problems in my life and the things I didn't even consider problems were all interconnected.

Perhaps from the POV of the psychiatrist diagnosis is not relevant; however, from the POV of the rest of your life it may well be. A diagnosis will give you legal protection under the American's with Disabilities Act, and the ability to get accommodations, services, and support at school and work which could help prevent the difficulties such as those you had in the past with your education.
I find psych doctors often exceptionally narrow-sighted on this topic--they neglect to see that you have a whole other life that does not involve them in which having the diagnosis might mean the difference between a successful education and career, and homelessness and starvation :-/

Welcome, hope you like it here.
From La Cage aux Folles,
"It's my world that I want to take a little pride in,
My world, and it's not a place I have to hide in."
