Poll Do you have NLD

I thought that since my LD poll showed NLD to be common among aspie with LDs I wanted to see if this was true for all aspies in the community.

Well I guess everyone will soon see.

does this have something to do with learning disabilities? because those damn computer acronyms are coming up in my head-in this case the now-defunct Novell Linux Desktop.

I have numerous processing disorders including Auditory Processing Disorders. Perhaps the poll could have more specific classifiers. As to what specific problems this would have. Having CAPD does not classify as a LD. It is not just a learning disorder but it could affect learning.

I've never been quite sure just WHAT the difference between AS and NLD is.

Yeah, I read up on it a little and they look pretty much the same. The only difference I saw was that the people they consider NLD and not ASD "blend in" better for longer before being diagnosed.

But since how well one blends in depends a lot on things like gender, class, upbringing, and how well one's talents and weaknesses match the quirks society considers acceptable, it seems like a very arbitrary distinction.

I guess I'll have to answer "no", because I honestly have no clue what NLD is.

NLD = Nonverbal Learning Disability. Though, I'm not really sure exactly what it means. From what I've seen, it seems to be very similar to Asperger's. I'm not really clear on what the difference is between the two.

Asperger's is a condition when you never develop certain abilities or outlooks that are common in the general population and necessary for the building of society. Mainly issues communicating (often is reading nonverbal communication), understanding social guidelines, and narrowed, intense, repetitive interests and behaviors. Hence we tend to have an easier time at some things and a much harder time at other ( ... )

I don't think so, but I'm not diagnosed with anything so you never know.
