Dear a_m_a, are there any passenger cars still being sold in the USA that have 4wd on demand (not just all-wheel drive, though it's okay if it has that, but some kind of button or lever which you can use to put the vehicle into 4-wheel drive)? Bonus points if it is not a giant SUV type vehicle, as it's intended for a 60-something just-over-five- ( Read more... )

Is it available? I guess it is aftermarket only. Suzuki GV has been made until 2005. What about Tracker?

I think they stopped making them in 2004. But there are a lot of other vehicles that use the body and style of the tracker, just have different makers. Apparently there is a 2013 on the market but it's a bit more SUV-like.

Chevy/Geo Tracker was Suzuki Vitara. Also it has being manufactured under Mazda brand. At the present time some guys from Spain and India made them. Next generation of Vitara is a piece of shit without frame and full-time.
Second generation has part-time and frame. I'd like to get a new one.

It used to be available on station-wagon/hatchback type vehicles: subaru legacy, loyale, maybe the forester...

It's kind of SUV-y (but certianly not gigantic) but Jeep Wranglers are on-demand 4WD. They have always been, and probably always will be, some of the best 4WD vehicles out there.
