Lip Biting Habit

Apr 09, 2012 19:17

How would anyone go about quitting an unappealing habit of pealing the skin off the insides of your lips with your teeth? I experience a nice time period where I refrain from doing it, but afterwards I randomly catch myself doing it again. I've been doing this since I was about 7 or 8 years old (I'm 19 now). Any ideas from anyone? =/

Put on a goopy balm that tastes weird. I used to do it because I have really dry lips and I still peel it off but it isn't nearly as bad as it used to be.

I just might try that. I just hate the feeling of pulsating sores and rough skin caused by ripping it off. I bet it contributes to foul breath.

How much water do you drink? Being dehydrated exacerbates the problem. I think I started with some gross Vaseline stuff and once everything healed I went to something that smelled better [I prefer organic stuff like Burt's Bees or Yes to Carrots]. I just know that for me if my lips have nothing on them, I mess with them.

Keep your lips smooth so there's nothing for your teeth to bite. Put Carmex or some other thick balm on them at night, and use a lip scrub on them in the morning. Then keep them moisturized during the day. I do this and my lips are so smooth!

Put a couple elastic bands around your wrist. When you catch yourself doing it pull those suckers back and *SNAP*. A little negative reinforcement.

I kinda thought I was the only one who does that. Lip balm helped me. Chapped lips gives you something to bite on. Water is good too, try not to keep your lips dry. Z
