It's hard to say. The news we're getting is very conflicting. At first, it seemed like an unarmed 17-year-old from Florida was shot for no reason and now we're being told that Trayvon was actually beating the guy up and so on. That guy's attorney's been very vocal but he left an interview recently under odd circumstances (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/26/craig-sonner-interview-lawrence-odonnell_n_1381578.html?icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl6|sec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D146809) and who knows. Basically, it seems like no one really knows what happened but it's all over the news, for sure.

The deal is that you don't pursue a teenager after the cops tell you to stay put, and you sure as fuck don't shoot him. It doesn't matter if he was suspended from school, it doesn't matter if you think your neighborhood watch shift extends you extra authority, it doesn't matter what either of you were wearing, it doesn't matter if everyone has a different story. You don't use lethal force on a teenager until you've exhausted all other options and feel your life is in serious jeopardy. End of story.

Yup. Especially if you're not actually a neighborhood watch guy.

I keep reading that he is a neighborhood watch captain. Is that not true?

I wish he had gone a little further with it. I think it was this extremely beautiful powerful statement but he left it open, trusting people to fill in the blank -- SEAL THE DEAL, bro. Make a fucking enemy if you have to. Anyone who'd rail against or manipulate a statement about the senselessness of racism and the value of life is already yr enemy.

Thanks for posting these, Dale-- that media bias image has been popping up on my facebook wall all day and I don't think the people posting it realize that's not Trayvon Martin (and even if it is, that doesn't justify what happened to him).
