Public nose picking

Personally, I think it's gross.

I witnessed today, a man digging in his nose while waiting for his subway sandwich, and a little girl shoving her finger up her nose only to pull out a booger and eat it.

If you had kids would you stop them from nose picking in public/in general? How do you feel about adults that do it?

grooming & hygiene, gross

It's vile. Especially vile if they eat it. I wouldn't let my children do it if I had any.

I agree, super effing gross. Yes, I would discourage public nose picking in my kids. But I would let them know that it's okay to pick in private if they wash their hands afterwards (yes, I totally do this myself).

Adults picking their noses in public should never, ever happen. Like, ever.

Oh, and I would tell my kids that it's not cool to eat the products of their pickings, at all. Even though I don't think it's all that harmful since things get sucked from the sinuses and into the digestive tract all the time.

i think it just makes sense that if your body has seen fit to expel an object its not a good idea to place that object back in your body

I definitely get what you mean, but if your don't forcefully remove said object via picking or blowing then a strong nasal inhale could very well dislodge the, um, object and send it from nostril to sinuses to esophagus and onward, then...well...so the harm done by taking a more direct route is probably negligible. Don't get me wrong, mucus and cilia catch germs for a reason, but boogers still buck the system at times, usually without much harm done.

Lemme preface this by saying I pick my nose and have since I was ... really, really young. It's a compulsive habit, and if I could stop I certainly would.

I would definitely stop my kids, because my habit meant that plenty of kids my age thought I was gross and I was ostracised for it. I think it's gross to watch other adults do it, but I do it myself, so I feel hypocritical.. <.<;;

That's disgusting. I would stop my child immediately and discuss how nasty it was. Get a damn kleenex and if that doesn't cut it - go find a bathroom and pick in private (and then wash your freakin' hands!). Don't stand and pick your nose in front of people. ESPECIALLY in the vicinity of food!

I tell my two year old that she can use a tissue in the bathrooom instead of picking because I think it's gross.
