Question for the King James bible savvy:

Am I remembering the story correctly where God took Elijah up to Heaven and gave him a tour Divine Comedy style? I can almost swear he did but since I am an athiest and haven't read any of the bible in at least ten years, I am confused. This info is for a story I'm planning to write.

i can't google, myths

I think Elijah was taken up to heaven...but there was no tour, per se.

Well, no tour is pretty much assumed, but who knows. Since he took him up to heaven and never returned him back to earth, I HOPE there was a tour.

I don't know. That's the only bible I'm familiar with. I have no idea how things variate between versions.

Elijah was carried to heaven and did not return. You really can't google, can you? And why King James savvy? Elijah's assumption is in every translation since it is in the original.

9And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me ( ... )

I tried googling but found nothing about it so I was just wondering if it was just me getting mixed up or if it was just harder to find. And I'm only familiar with King James. I have no idea how things variate between versions of the bible so I didn't really know that it was the same in all versions.

Thanks for the info though!

Were you thinking of St. John? Revelations is, among other things, a vision of Heaven and in it he is given a tour of the place. St. Paul in II Corinthians talks about a person (taken by most to be Paul himself) who was "caught up" to the Third Heaven and saw inexpressible things, but what that means is, obviously, moot.

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking of. I got the two mixed up. Thanks for the information! I guess I'll be reading Revelations now.

I don't know about Christianity but something like that did supposedly happen to the Prophet Muhammad according to Islam, tour and all.

MTE. I don't remember anything like this from the bible but when learning about Islam I remember a story similar to what your describing.

And the Kitab al-Miraj was one of Dante's inspirations for the Divine Comedy.
