In what ways have you felt confined by society? In what ways do you/did you defy these confinements?

I'm writing about social rebellion and I'm looking for some inspiration from real experiences. Your personal rebellions can be as small as defying your parents or as big as leading a huge protest. Whatever you want!

same here and kick ass all the same time by surprising people on how much we can do (and do better than).

When I really put things in perspective, I don't think the ways in which I've rebelled are probably all that remarkable. Most of them just involved going against minor societal expectations and especially my parents' expectations ( ... )

In middle school I joined the all-boys football team because I felt it was sexist not to include girls. We were just as big (or bigger) than the boys at that age! That was a fiasco.

I grew up in South America, specifically in Colombia. The pressure to look and act like a beauty queen, when you're female, is enormous. My own family bullied me for ages for not conforming to it. I was called fat, ugly and similar things as of the age of 8. All by my parents and extended family. Then at school it was the same. I was never really interested in it. I was interested in books and school and grades. I had to take constant bullying from almost everyone for years. I never gave in. I mean, that's not who I am or who I was. Being pretty was never a concern of mine ( ... )

Society has expectations of what a black woman should be, but I'm just myself. I don't fit any particular mold and I'm more than okay with that.
