Maybe, I dunno! This is one of those things that you understand in your own head, but there aren't words in the english language to get it across to others. You just have to hope they understand where you're coming from.
I know what you're getting at. Are there some people who go through life actively engaging the world around them, and some who autopilot through it, passively watching life happen?
If that's what you're getting at, yes, I'd agree with you. Some people clearly live their lives. Others watch other people pretend to do it on TV.
And people who only seem to be able to parrot what they hear and what other people do. They don't seem to have critical thinking skills. That kind of thing. Like some people seem to just be born without that ability and others just naturally have it, and they're more... something.
I've glanced through various New Age books like those about the "Indigo Children" and some suggest that there are people on this planet who are more evolved and/or have some sort of heightened cosmic awareness. I mostly think that those ideas are bunk, but I do feel that there are some who are more conscious, but might live more "in their heads" than others, which actually might make them appear less conscious to the casual observer. Does the above make sense? No? Good.
It doesn't sound nonsensical, but it is very vague.
It sounds maybe like you're referring to a kind of person who is more... meta-conscious? People who experience life as an exercise in consciousness, abstract thought, self-awareness, etc? As a problem to be analyzed and understood?
The word 'capable' doesn't fit there, though... many capable people are purely pragmatic, narrowly-focused doers, and many "thinkers" have their heads in the clouds and are incapable of accomplishing anything. So maybe I don't get where you're coming from.
It's REALLY hard to elaborate. If only I could just put you into my brain!
See, I think it's different and they're still different even if they choose to be that way. It's the difference in that they can make that choice, while some people don't seem to be capable of having branches in their thought tree. Does that make any sense? Like the difference between a tree with no branches and a tree with lots of them, some people don't seem to have those branches; they don't seem to be able to think beyond a very limited scope, usually limited to what they've been heavily exposed to.
Like how my mom will just kind of repeat whatever fox news tells her. And if I try to point out other things to her, she genuinely doesn't seem to be able to understand.
From this comment, it sounds like your two types are open-minded and closed-minded... People who are willing to reconsider their beliefs and evaluate new sources of information, vs people who have made up their minds and see no value in modifying their world view.
If so, I don't really see them as "types" of people - moreso a spectrum of approaches that people fall into in various ways (everyone closes their mind to certain avenues, and no one completely shuts down their critical mind). idk. I'm still not sure we're on the same page.. oh well.
Nooo, I wouldn't say that. I'd say it's more that one type of person isn't really CAPABLE of being open-minded. Like they just don't think past what's immediately around them at the time.
I definitely know what you mean about the shallower bit. The people around me that have led a fairly privileged life seem to have no perspective and seem to be unable to see the big picture. They freak out about tiny things more easily. My very spoiled roommate considers the entire day ruined if like one little thing happens, as small as whacking his elbow or getting a slightly annoying customer at work. He's never had a real problem in his life, and it just really shows when people have been that lucky. They tend to dramatize the small things and expect attention for it.
