Author's notes: Time constraints have left this piece unbetad and unproofed. I'd like to apologise for that, at this point. Also, I may have been projecting just a touch.

Ash didn't bother with birthdays any more )

Love the snarkiness at the beginning about collections and card signing. I swear, in my office everyone must have at least three birthdays each :)
There are tons of adorable character moments but I've picked out my favourites:
When old Bill Godwin retired, the powers that be had seen fit to give the vacant DCI post to a young turk from the Met, by the name of Sullivan. - I am now thinking about Rod Stewart songs. But I do love how Sullivan is sort of like the fairy-godmother of the story. So to speak.
The day Sullivan introduced Scribbs as her new partner, Ash nearly resigned. - Hee! And also, awww.
Sullivan wasn't in the least bit surprised to see them arrive in a shared taxi, and he watched them watch each other, all evening. - I am liking Sullivan a whole lot.
Their eyes met, and the world stopped. - I actually teared up a little bit at that.
I adored this. Thank you. :)

Aww. Thank you!
I do actually have several thousand words of the other prompt you sent written, but it appears to be turning into a bit of an epic, and I've already got two of those that need finishing!

It struck me that when we first meet them, they've clearly been partners for long enough to have formed something of a bond and I wondered where that came from, given they're such radically different personalities.
Very nice one.
Thank you!

It's a cliche. I know it's a cliche, but like Ash said... they're only cliche's because they actually happen. :-)
