Goddamn.

Reading this just pisses me off. How can people be so disconnected. Argh.

I know I probably say stupid shit to various people from time to time... but egads, these take the cake.

Ability issues are a tough one. We did a diversity training at our UU church and this one was one that I think we need to go back and focus on. Our church isn't very accessible, and to me that means not very welcoming. Everyone is aware of it... but to my knowledge we aren't *doing* anything about it. Maybe I should revisit the section in the workshop on this and see if I can get people to participate in the entire program again.

Generally even quite good people don't think to do anything about it when they aren't personally inconvenienced. Sad but true.

I admire you. I respect you. I wonder if I would have done as well had I been dealt the hand that you were dealt.

I am sad that you have been subjected to that ugliness.

I am glad that I will have the opportunity to know you a bit better over the coming months.

Jumping Jesus...

If I ever say or do anything that offensive, please note that I have no idea what I'm saying or doing. I would never do anything intentionally to hurt you. First, slap me a bit, then tell me what I did or said wrong so that I can fix myself.

Trust me, if you ever say anything that falls in that class, your first clue will probably be the stunned look on my face, followed by either a slap or me walking silently out of the room because I don't want to actually wring your neck.

Re: "resource-wasting"... it's only wasting if one starts with the premise that all people are valuable in exactly the same way, minus any "problems" they have. M'self, I like a culture that values diversity. And the definition of "diversity" is "some people have traits that others don't." We are not all alike, nor would we be if could give everyone the same structural integrity.

I didn't know there was such a day. I posted about it. http://elfwreck.insanejournal.com/171928.html

I was going to reply to the BADD post, but I can't; the comment window & my dialup internet are just not compatible. (It keeps freezing up when I try.)

I commented for you. It should go on the list in the morning, Greenwich.

And Luddites and I really don't get along ideologically in the first place.

Next can we hear stories about you hurting people with your wheelchair? It would certainly make me feel better, if no one else.

Low and stable center of gravity, plus titanium and a wicked turn radius. You figure the physics.

Or you could just, y'know, come to one of the dance concerts. It's much the same thing, except that I'm throwing people up in the air instead of across the room, and missing their ankles by half an inch instead of making crunchy noises.
