My friend's brother recently went for grad school interviews, and he got asked the same question at more than one institution.  I found this question quite fun, so I'm posting it here for you guys *g*

OH WOW, I suppose that would work, I never thought of this one! So awesome. But my friend would scream 'cheater', so for the sake of argument, let's say the switches aren't string-friendly. Uh, let's make them button switches instead...

Lights generate heat right? So why not flip two of the switches, leave one as it is, flip back one of the switches, and wait a while before going in?

(flip one switch, wait a while, the flip another switch, leave one off. go inside, feel for the bulb that is hotter, and voila *g*)
