Starsky & Hutch Fanfiction - Poll

Jan 14, 2011 14:06

To any who stop by, welcome to my latest and truly unscientific poll about Starsky & Hutch fanfiction for readers, writers/artists, and anyone in between. Fanfiction seems to be a large part of our fandom (any fandom?) ... almost as much as the canon episodes and the visuals and anything else related to our two favorite Bay City Detectives.

I read fanfiction because I like it and the only thing that turns me off is slash in this fandom because it’s out of character for me.

I'm curious - I'm not going to start any wank here, so no fear - just curious as to whether you read slash at all, and if you do, what fandoms.

I don't intend any offense, nor will I take any if you choose not to answer. I'm jut being nosy.

I don’t like reading slash in S&H because *I* think it’s out of character for this show. I tried to read it, but I don’t like reading sex scenes (het, slash, alien, whatever) and in 95% of the slash stories I tried to read there were explicit sex scenes and in MY opinion it was all just about sex and it was not necessary for the plot and I have no idea why such scene was there in a first place, so I don’t read it, because for the 5% I’m not going to risk my peace of mind. And I DON’T TELL PEOPLE THEY SHOULD/SHOULD NOT WRITE/READ IT. This is just MY opinion and I don’t make anybody to feel the same way ( ... )

Fan fiction is some kind of drug for me. I can't without it. It's so inspiring and I love to read and to write about their feelings for each other and their partnership and relationship and about difficulties of their life because of that. I love gen and I love slash. Depends on my mood. I also love h/c. It's about the love to care for each other and to nurse.

I really don't like them marry. It doesn't fit and it's not necessary. And I can't stand them abuse each other. They can make mistakes like everybody. But they never would abuse the other one. They both feel too much for each other for abusing. And it's not in their nature to abuse anyway. That's what I feel about them. It really is a very special love story and it doesn't matter if slash or gen. It's UNIQUE!!!

Fanfiction is wonderful. I actually never thought I would enjoy it...now I want to read it more than "real" books, at least the phase I am in. I agree with you on everything...and about the "abusing" each other as a no-no. I find that so offputting, I can't even describe it. If a story heads in that direction, I bail! :-)

Thanks b-angel xx

You both know, of course, that that makes me immediately want to write a fic with partner abuse that is also in character... :D

Great poll, Angel, I'll be interested to see the results if a lot of people participate.

I have written fic all my life, since childhood, it's just in me and the stories want to burst out.

Nothing worse than them being out of character-no matter which medium.
My fave topics are angst filled stories.
I don´t see them as gen or slash, for me they just love each other and the story is important if I believe it or not.

You see them beautifully, Moni - and draw them even more so. Hugs xx

Just a hint: Some might find this off-putting, and not contribute.

Oh no! I never want to offend anybody. Darn it all! I just went back in and tried to change it, and can't even see the poll in "edit entry". Darn darn darn. Thanks sultrystarsk - learning for next time. Much appreciated!

You can't edit polls. It would be unfair to people who already contributed if you changed the questions or answers so LJ disabled this option.

I am just gutted that I am so stupid at times. It is only right - I have thought badly of others doing "stupid" things and then there I go, setting an example. *big frown at myself*

Thanks Nicky, for clarifying it for me.
