Well, Christmas in the US is certainly different than in the UK. No boxing day for a start. The day after Christmas Day is just December the 26th, just another day in the year. Christmas is here and it is an odd Christmas. This is the first christmas I'll have spent in America.

In America there is Christmas, Hanukkah, Wintereenmas, Kwanzaa, etc. So everybody here just celebrates “solstice” and religion is a secondary thing handled privately. Santa Claus is of course a constant, with his jolly child-friendly ( Read more... )

Carrie's pregnancy sickness appears to be lessening, falling off dramatically over the last couple of days. She still feels sick but is being sick less and has perked up quite a bit. The baby will be 13 weeks gestating on Tuesday.

Well, my pile of greencard paperwork has been received in Chicago, and now I'm awaiting homeland security to tell me when and where they want my fingerprints and retinal scans and photographs. They already have my blood, Dr Tran took that. Things are moving along quite nicely now. The next step is a driving test, after some more practice of course.

Last weekend we went to watch the Salmon run. The salmon here are huge fish that grow teeth! They also rush up into the small streams of the pine rain-forests here to spawn and die. It was the spawning that we saw, with many fish just lying dead on the banks. Apparently the fish are an integral part of the ecosystem and they feed the forest with ( Read more... )

Bit of a scare yesterday. Carrie had to go to the hospital.

It was Thanksgiving (a sort of two-day Christmas that starts Thursday and ends Friday on the last week of November each year). Thanksgiving involves a huge meal with the family, but without presents.
