he wanted to give Tolkien’s personal story the film that it deserves. Hopefully he was able to pull it off and deliver a great movie.

My expectations are low, because Tolkien's religious, political and cultural views are diametrically opposed to those of very nearly everyone in the entertainment world. They may like his works, but I don't doubt they would have loathed the man.

prester_scott, I tend to agree: there is almost nothing on offer in today's entertainment environment that strikes me as worth the time spent watching it. I will probably see the film, out of curiosity, but like you I will set my expectations low.
