Kyla was interviewed by Eye of Fire magazine last year, and we have been given permission to reprint it on our website: Kyla Ward interview.

In the meantime, some quick reviews.

The Disappearance of Alice Creed: well made and interesting, but Alice herself gets most of the dodgy moments of plot, which undermines what they were attempting.

What did you think they were doing with Alice Creed? I had the distinct impression they changed the ending from what they originally planned (for the better, I might add.)

It seemed to me built as a three-way character piece with each of them screwing over the others in turn. Alice obviously starts at a grave disadvantage, but various stupidities of plot (in particular the scene where she retrieves the keys from the jacket) undermine her ascendency, even given the ending.

MR. DURSLEY: YOU DEFLATE YOUR AUNT RIGHT NOW!

HARRY: FUCK ALL Y’ALL AND THIS POPSICLE STAND!

AUNT MARGE IN THE DISTANCE: AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Happy times, happy times.

The Underbelly series seems to me to be getting weaker with each iteration - not that The Golden Mile wasn't interesting, but the plot arc (particularly the conclusion) was less coherent and much less satisfying than in the predecessors.

I was also a little irked that they missed including one of the unintentionally hilarious notes from the true story - during the incriminating conversation between two cops in a car, the cop who (rightly) suspected the car was bugged was playing the car radio in the hope of drowning out the conversation, so the background soundtrack was "Baby did a bad bad thing.". When the conversation was played on 4 Corners, they had to point out that they hadn't added the music.

We haven't got to the conclusion yet, but that sounds a shame, on both counts.

I enjoyed the end of The Golden Mile (having finally managed to see it). Showing not just the Wood Royal Commission but the aftermath of it seemed a sensible conclusion.
