[The feed is at first filled with static and the sounds of the device being knocked around. But eventually, words start to filter through.]

[ there's a fussy little sound, a collection of static and a few bumps and bangs before a cleared throat and a moment of quiet. ]

Well, that's...quite the name. Quite the collection of names, that is.

[ a pause. ]

I come from a charming place known as Darktown. Part of another, equally charming place known as the City of Chains.

[ another pause. ]

I...take it we're not there anymore. I'd like to say it can't get any worse than Darktown, but whenever I say that--it generally does.

Then by names alone, this sounds like quite the improvement! Those two places have quite depressing names-Whoever named them should have been more optimistic! [clearly.]

Ahh, but no, not at all. Asgard seems quite a bit more cheerful than your Darktown, I would guess!

...I don't think they were in the best of moods when they came up with the system, no. They should have called it "You Won't Like It Here" and had done with it.

[ there's a slight twist of mirth in his voice, but it's colored by shadows. ] This...'Macedon.' That doesn't sound too awful--unless they were lying about the name when they chose it?

[Laughs] Ha, so it should be! But with luck, you will find this new place more hospitable? Other than the odd circumstances, I quite enjoy it myself!

Ah, but Macedon is better, of course, but I speak of it as my homeland. My father told me stories of our country's founding, and the legend says that our country is named for our people. Makednos means 'a tall ones,' so we've always taken it as a compliment that the Greeks would compliment our peoples' strength!

[Strange ones, eh? Well, Sonic undoubtedly fits the bill, given that he's... clearly not human at all. But still, he looks pretty chill, just smirking like the smug sun of a gun he is.]

'Nother one for Thor house, huh? That's where I'm stayin'.

[A beat.]

As for me, I'm a Freedom Fighter straight off of planet Mobius.

[Rider peers a bit closer at the "camera," as if to get a better look at the strange creature on the other end]

A Freedom Fighter, eh? That sounds like quite the noble profession! [He laughs] I am glad to have such a person as my housemate.

Though forgive my rudeness, my friend, but I have never seen a creature quite like yourself!

It's totally noble. 'specially when your planet's been taken over by an ugly, old bald guy with major issues.

[He laughs.]

Anyway, you're not the first to ask that, so it's cool. But if you wanna know, I'm a hedgehog.

[He rubs his beard with a smile] Truly? Ha, I have never seen a hedgehog like yourself either! Though of course they are not prone to talking in my experience as well.

In any case, it sounds as if you are a warrior, so I give you my respect.

Nah, that's just how fashion is. Always evolving! You gotta keep up with the times, or you'll be left behind. I think these bracelets are pretty cool, if you ask me.

[ though he pauses at that name. this guy's gotta be joking, right? ]

I'm from Japan, but I've been workin' overseas for a while now. Rider's kind of a strange thing to want to be called though... there some reason behind that? [ not even going to touch on the other name yet. ]

They are interesting, don't misunderstand, but not very much to my taste. Gold is much better, if we are to talk of precious metals!

[He waves his hand dismissively] It is a title and nothing more. Alexander is my birth name, but it seems more appropriate to use my class as a Servant.

Hm... well gold is probably worth more, yeah. But if you ask me, it can look a bit gaudy. The kind of thing I'd give my girl as a present, but not the kind of thing I'd wanna wear myself.

Ooooh. A servant? So you're workin' for someone?

oikoumene December 8 2011, 14:50:13 UTC
Then you've never seen gold finely crafted! It is the only thing that a king is fit to wear-I have always known silver to be for queens and other lesser nobility. Gold is the king's metal. But, ahh, that makes me sound quite petty, doesn't it? [He laughs] I cannot truly complain, for metals aside, this is a interesting little thing!

[He rubs his beard thoughtfully, then grins] With someone, I would think is more accurate. We have the same ultimate goal, but of that I must keep quiet, I am afraid.

[ Well doesn't he sound nice? Orihime's a bit too relieved to hear such a jovial voice through the network. Positivity is much easier to spread around to those who welcome it, after all. ]

Hello, Mr. Rider~! My name is Inoue Orihime, and I'm from Karakura, Japan~

[Her cheer is received with a grin]

And hello to you, girl! It's a pleasure to meet someone as cheerful as I! [He laughs briefly, then looks quite interested] Ah, but Japan, you say? Interesting! I was currently... visiting the place before I came here. Though admittedly, I have no idea where Karakura is!

Really? [ That would make him the second person... weird. ] Well - it's a pretty small town, maybe that's why!

It is possible, I suppose! But I've also been limited to visiting one city... [He frowns briefly, but then smiles again] But! With any luck I can visit the rest of your country, and then I may come across it!

Macedon's a nice place. I've been through there a few times. But I didn't realize we were already up to a third Alexander on the throne. Last I heard, it was just Alexander the unnumbered.

[Interesting. Rider didn't think he would meet anyone from his "time" at all, so his interest in this man is very clear]

Is that so? Ha, then you speak of my ancestor Alexander, who allowed us to participate in the Olympics! A fine ruler, of course. I am his descendent by about one hundred years, my friend. But I am glad you found my country welcoming!

video nobackstories December 8 2011, 02:54:34 UTC
[A hundred years or so isn't a bad place to start anyway.]

Well, I wouldn't call it welcoming. Your old man wasn't too kindly to Persians. I had to keep myself scarce.

oikoumene December 8 2011, 14:52:51 UTC
[He raises an eyebrow, but his smile doesn't change. A Persian? He certainly didn't expect to meet one of them ever again.]

Unfortunately, it's quite understandable. There's a bit of bad blood between us, especially at that time. But let me be clear that I do not harbor any ill will, my friend! It is not in my nature to hate an entire people. [Though he'll be keeping the conquering thing to himself. Best to be sensitive.]
