[Yuri is seated in the kitchen of Odin House. He's made himself some tea. This particular kind of tea is not ideal, and the same can be said of the honey, which is of rather low quality, but it will have to do for now. He takes a thoughtful sip, then returns the teacup to its saucer ( Read more... )

[...]

[To be honest, he can't speak for the first part at all. This... is better than what he had. In that sense, it's a boon -- but he's pretty sure he doesn't agree with the price.]

They really are pretty selfish 'gods', aren't they?

[The second part, however, is what piques his interest.]

--You will wait, then?

[Yuri would say that people who wish to remain are another matter. He would have no issue with people being invited or anyone choosing to stay.

He nods.]

They are not my gods, and I will not serve them.

I will wait and watch. I will take nonviolent action if the chance arises, but I have not been here long enough to say what form my disobedience may take.

They are not my gods, either, but it seems they don't want to give me much of a choice.

[A small nod.]

It's true; we don't have enough information to act in any way right now. Except the way they want us to, I guess. [Headtilt.] In that case, aren't you just doing exactly what they want?

None of us have been given a choice, which is the reason for my objections.

As I stated, I will not participate willingly. I can hardly stop myself from living and experiencing emotions, no matter what I do or do not do, which seems to be what they want from us.

My protests and efforts may be doomed to failure, but I will make them nonetheless.

I do not think dissent will prevent you from participating. The wills of the foreigners here do not seem to carry any weight in this particular matter.

I believe you may be right. That is why I said I would not willingly participate. If I am forced, that is another matter, and it will be without my consent, and with my objection voiced.

The weight my will carries is irrelevant. I will not sit idly by, remaining silent, while injustice is done.

[ have a big sigh ]

So stiff. It seems like many here have no appreciation for the things they've been granted, you included.

[Yuri's expression is sober and unchanging.]

I have been granted nothing here. If you feel you have, I take no issue with that. Yet those who do not wish to be here have every right to object to their captivity.

[ it's sad (in a pathetic way) that no one seems to understand. so, they'd struggle and struggle until they realized it was fruitless and gave into demands? that's fine, but it was such a waste of time, he could hardly bear to watch it unfold. ]

Sure. But if they don't realize what opportunity being here holds, maybe their wants are a little misplaced.

If you feel so strongly about the matter, perhaps you'd care to explain yourself?

[He doesn't generally choose to entertain vague statements.]

Public statements of dissent? Politely disagreeing with the situation at hand? Well, I suppose it's better than nothing. But after the statements fall on deaf ears--what then? Enjoy a nice cup of tea and that's the end of it?

[ you'll have to forgive anders. that's just how he talks to people, especially when matters of justice and vengeance are concerned. ]

Those who would practice civil disobedience generally make their intentions clear, so I began with a statement.

I did not say I would not do anything further, but at this time, I do not know enough of this place to choose a course of action.

I am open to suggestions, if you have any.

Actually, a cup of tea at the moment does sound nice. But it's what comes after the tea that matters most, isn't it?

The usual...abilities don't seem to apply in this place, nor the usual parameters. So you're suggesting a period of study followed by a period of application?

And not just the tea--no matter how nice it might be.

You'd be welcome to a cup. Though this tea isn't of a particularly high quality, I'm afraid.

That was my intention. It does no good to rush into these things blindly, especially considering how unusual this city is. [He's a severe man, but he can be very patient.]

Do you believe that they would listen to reason?

I do not. As I stated, I doubt whether they will listen. I will make my beliefs clear nonetheless.

If the opportunity arises to address them directly, I will do so.

Admirable, in the sense that you are strong in your beliefs. I can only wish that you get the response you desire.

I thank you. I wish the same. They may seem unlikely to listen, but I will not cease my efforts, in any case. [He can be very patient, and he will do what he believes is right.]
