The guests have all been alerted that Nanako is on her way, with Tomoe holding her hand. Nanako herself is properly dressed for the occassion, wearing an ornate Furisode, or long-sleeved kimono with a beautiful obi to match. Her hair has been done up into a traditional bun with kanzashi to top the effect.
Once they enter and it is clear Nanako is the center of attention, Tomoe will release her hand and back away so that the guests may welcome and congratulate her. It's okay to get a bit louder here, because now the party has officially started!
Kenshin had been milling about the room, doing his best to finish up any last minute details while keeping an eye on the guests that had arrived. He looked up as Tomoe arrived with Nanako and couldn't help giving a legitimately real smile. It was true that the focus was meant to be on Nanako, but he had his own reasons for watching Tomoe instead. After all, it was so very rare to see her like this...
So once the guest of honor was being greeted, he deftly made his way around to where Tomoe had backed off and stood quietly beside her, that genuine smile lingering.
"Has everything turned out the way you planned?" he asked quietly, though he was sure given the expression on Nanako's face that the specifics didn't particularly matter.
Folding her hands casually in front of her, Tomoe tipped her head to acknowledge Kenshin's presence, though her gaze remained on the young girl and her friends. Though she was not exactly smiling at the moment, her disposition was one of contentment, something she knew he would notice.
"It is too soon to tell. But...she seemed very happy with the gift. I do not think she was expecting anything like this. She reminds me of Enishi somewhat. Not in personality, but...her mother was also taken from her young. She has had to grow up much too fast, and here she does not even have her father's guidance."
Curling her fingers in, she brought her hands to rest over her chest, shutting her eyes for a moment. "I did not do such a good job with my brother. Little Nanako has gone through so much, and I do not want to let her down as well. Seeing her smile brings me warmth I had long forgotten."
