Miscellany

Ran the choir rehearsal last night with just the women (we're doing a women's piece for Mother's Day - I would have had the men do something instead but we don't quite have enough of them to make an ensemble). I thought it went well until Barbara came to play the actual accompaniment with us (I had just been playing the parts on the piano - well, ( Read more... )

Glad you got SoM already. Though I could have given you my copy. There are a lot of characters. I asked Laurell to include a pronounciation guide the next time like she did in SbM. I get such a kick out of the fact that this was the series I bought Anita for. I had to read Guilty Pleasures first so I could understand the draw. If I hadn't wanted to read Kiss of Shadows I never would have met Anita Blake. I think I would be somewhat wealthier, monetarily, but I wouldn't be having as much fun!

I think that I like the Faerie series better than the Anita Blake one. I tend to like more of the political intricacy such as that in David Weber's Honor Harrington series. I also have more anticipation to find out what other things are going to happen with Meredith. Wish they could be written faster.

As far a books go have you by chance read any of Jim Butcher's books? The Dresden Files are pretty good - kind of like the Anita Blake books but with what seems to be more of a gritty detective novel sort of feel. Seven(?) books in the series. The latest on is only out in hardcover. He also has a new series that just started (second one is in paperback) called the Codex Alera. Very different system of magic. All very hard to put down once you start.

I started on the Anita books so I think that's why I like her more than the the faerie. But actually, Meredith is definitely growing on me with each book. Neither of these would I have picked up if not for some prodding by my friend sabriel_0405, but I liked them enough to keep reading, and eagerly await any new installments.

Haven't read any Jim Butcher, so I just put Storm Front on hold at the library (LOVE that I can do that on the web!). Book suggestions are always a good thing. I don't always love mysteries, but sometimes they make for a nice change. For an interesting new take on crime fighting, I liked Jasper Fforde's Eyre Affair and sequels.

Right now I'm reading Eragon - I've read a lot of good YA fic the last couple years (i.e. Garth Nix, Philip Pullman). I'm about 100 pages in and it has my attention so far. A nice quick read before I jump into whatever is next (depends what shows up at the library, I guess!).

Btw, I'm sure I should know you, but I don't know your LJ name. I guess you know who I am since you posted here! :)

Think PKT, swimming then fencing, juggling, and role-playing with your husband.

Hmmm...sounds like John to me! There seem to be a lot of LU folks on LJ, but I don't know who is who. :(

Btw, I just got an email saying that the Jim Butcher book is in at the library, so I'll have to go pick it up tomorrow. Yay for new books to read! :)
