Things going downhill for "Asakiyumemishi" the anime

I was looking forward to the anime adaptation of the Japanese manga "Asakiyumemishi" by Yamato Waki, based on the ancient classic "The Tale of Genji" by Murasaki Shikibu.

Ooh, I'd heard of the Genji anime but didn't know it was meant to be based on a specific shoujo manga. It's a shame they decided to go a different route, because that art style looks gorgeous.

Onmyouji! I am still grumpy that there has never been a really good film or anime version of Abe no Seimei's life--the movies were silly and fun, but you couldn't really call them good. *sigh* A friend and I were supposed to be scanlating the lovely manga into English, which I was excited about, but that project seems to be dead....

Oh man, I'd take on the "Onmyouji" scanlation project's translation department, if you are talking about Okano Reiko version of the manga. Because sooner or later, sad as it is... I'll run out of SC doujinshi to translate. (Unless by some miracle, they'd start making more episodes and the doujin market will once again come alive...)

Yep, that's the one! If you're really willing I might take you up on that, once I've checked with the other girl to see if she still wants to do it or not. It was just her and me--I did all the cleaning/text editing and she did the translation, but we were working from the published French versions (she speaks French and English), but a translation from the Japanese would be much nicer to have than a translation of a translation.

There's no hurry, of course--just nudge me if you're still interested when you run out of Champloo doujinshi? :D I know it'd be a very big project, especially since the manga's got lots of difficult-to-translate vocab/terminology, but it doesn't seem likely to be licensed by a U.S. company and I hate to think of it never being in English for the people who'd like to read it but aren't multi-lingual.

Hey, if all is cool with the other girl, I'd most definitely be interested in translating that series. I will "nudge" you when I run out of SC doujinshi to do. :D

There's so little of this manga online actually. I was surprised. There was one fan site in, I believe, Italian. But nobody has done a comprehensive site and I'm having a hard time locating the manga books at used book stores. Apparently they've gone out of print. I was hoping that this launch of the new anime series would bring the books back in print, but now that they decided not to even say "based on Yamato Waki's manga" ... I wonder.... *grr*

I have vols. 1, 2, and 4 in Nihongo. Been on a lookout for the rest of them, but had no luck so far. (Time to ask my sis to hit the used book stores in Japan!)

I know they have a few volumes of this manga in a bilingual edition. I was thinking about getting them for my daughter who has been interested because the art is so gorgeous with this manga.
