...Dammit. I swear- that will never get out of my head.

So. Controversial post time again!! ...Sorta.

Remember when I made that post about gay rights? Well, this is similar, except, in light of his speech yesterday, about health care reform!

My opinion... )

I am not 100% sure of how the medical care sytem works in Mexico, all I have heard is that it's not thenightmare it is in the US.

Here in Mexico we have that weird hybrid you mentioned. If you're an employee of mostly anything, and sometimes even just for studying at a public university (like mine), you get insurance at this place called "Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social" (Mexican Institute of Social Security). You are covered for anything, or so I heard. They include a network of clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies.
OF COURSE then comes the problem of Mexico being a third world country sunk in corruption that does not allow for this service to be 100% awesome: There's a constant lack of medicines and overcrowded waiting rooms. But hey, I suppose it's a LOT better than not having anything.

Also, there are private hospitals and private insurance companies, for when you actually have the money or want to get a better treatment ( ... )

Honestly? In many ways, that's better than what we have here. We do have more medicines and things, but no one can afford them, sometimes even with insurance. And you're all insured, so you're doing better than I will once I'm out of college- as an actress, I won't get health insurance through my job, and I won't be able to afford it on my own. And we have really ridiculous, overcrowded waiting rooms too... and then we can't even afford treatment. So yeah, what you have is really pretty awesome.

yes, actually, medical care is very unexpensive here... for what I've heard.

Like I said, I believe all professional/serious jobs are forced to offer you the IMSS thing. Like, if a theatre hires you, you should be insured...

I THINK.

Oh, and there are also those hospital-school places...

Precisely. Meanwhile here in the US, if you get sick, you also get broke. It's incredibly inconvenient- it screws you over twice. Which is a major issue.

Dude, I just want them to get rid of the NO INSURANCE IF YOU HAVE A PREEXISTING MEDICAL CONDITION shit. I mean, what the fdfdfdsfkjfskld. Our health care system SUCKS BEYOND BELIEF. The ER in most hospitals is treated like family practice because they aren't allowed to deny care. So you have people at the ER with actually emergencies and people there with the flu. WTF WTF WTF WTF. There is something so wrong with that.

Yep, pretty much. And then everyone gets charged about a billion dollars for anything/everything. It's utterly ridiculous. If you get sick, not only are you incredibly ill, but you also get broke. It's so ridiculous!!

I saw this today and couldn't help but thinking of this entry: http://community.livejournal.com/ontd_political/4096135.html

It turns out that in eight states, plus the District of Columbia, getting beaten up by your spouse is a pre-existing condition.

Under the cold logic of the insurance industry, it makes perfect sense: If you are in a marriage with someone who has beaten you in the past, you're more likely to get beaten again than the average person and are therefore more expensive to insure.

This is fail on so many levels.

What... what... what?!?? That's so... it's just... yes, economically it's entirely sensible for the insurance companies, but are they serious? How our current health care system could be so heartless is simply beyond me.
