The Real Reason I'm Obsessed With Torchwood

I love Dr. Who to a ridiculous degree, and I am by no means saying that Torchwood is better than its source material, or worse for that matter.  It's like comparing pizza to ice cream.  I get very different things out of

Ah, Torchwood. It does indeed go there. And it hangs around, takes off its coat, kicks off its shoes, fixes itself a drink, and props its feet up on the coffee table.

That's the thing I like about Torchwood. It knows exactly what its purpose is (omni-gendered PG-13 sexuality and semi-plausible science fiction), and revels in fulfilling that purpose. Bad dialogue, inconsistent characterization, cheesy production values and silly plotting be damned, Torchwood will deliver its own particular brand of goods, with Jack's sparkly smile on its face.

I've seen that scene! It was in an article I read about guy/guy romance being underrepresented in the US! IT'S SO FUCKING ADORABLE!!!!

Only, don't pick on Star Trek TOS. The fact that Kirk/Spock is so subtext is part of what's so endearing about it. In my opinion.
