Beautiful nor-easter this afternoon. I promised myself I'd go for a sail if I finished my List of Things to Do. So I did - such a great sense of release, not racing, just sailing on the bay, going where I wanted, practising tacks and gybes. I sailed up to a shiny grey powerboat and thought - how sucked in is he? (For sure it was a he.) Thousands of ( Read more... )

If the powerboat was anything from 37 feet and above, at least $10 000 a tank, to be precise. :D

We have a yacht and I love sailing it. I dont know exactly what you do (is your display pic you?) but I know the feeling. And I agree, its fantastic.

Yes, the pic is me on my Mistral raceboard, but I also have a Windsurfer One-design board, which I was sailing yesterday.

What sort of yacht do you have? We have an old Serendipity 28, but we don't get out on her often enough.

Jeanneaus for the win god_part_ii December 7 2006, 10:06:47 UTC
We have a Jeanneau SunFast 37...its a cruiser racer version of the Sun Odyssey. Which basically translates to a bigger main and sails(we also got a custom rig another couple of feet higher than that), a better winch layout and a couple of options for beefier equipment. Still, you wouldnt believe the difference between sailing it and the Sun Odyssey equivalent (which sails like a drunken fish IMO).

That being said, a couple of the cruiser standards translate well to the racing side. We have a roller furler headsail that we use for most races, because of the time we can hoist full sail and not lose control, because of increased hull size as opposed to true racers.

Wow, windsurfing, thats so awesome. I sort of went through a phase where I wanted to try it but it looks too hard to me :). And then I got back into crewing on the yacht so I sort of lost interest. Is it very hard? Because I've always thought it looked strenous, and a few peopel I know who windsurf are built like absolute tanks.
