I have just submitted a novel manuscript to a publisher for the very first time. Squee! I am, of course, expecting quite a number of rejection slips before anything gets picked up, but here's hoping, anyway, and I'm excited to finally be getting started.

I missed out on a lot of young adult reading when was in high school (gee thanks ap English) so I often grab books from there now having missed out on staples like The Giver. This doesn't surprise me as I feel like both library selections I've been through have a TON of vampire romance novels available thanks to the Twilight boom.
Kind of sad since a series I really like was almost dropped by the publisher, only to be saved by the fans begging for the 3rd book to be published.

even having had YA reading in school, i still love the YA section. the giver ftw! sometimes i think some of the best fantasy/sci-fi is coming out of the YA market.

^This! Also for animal adventure stories. I just re-read "My Life in Dog Years" by Paulsen and passed it on to one of my assistants :)
