Character idea - a social media undertaker. When you die, he goes around the web and shuts down your presence - makes final posts in your name in forums, alerts your Twitter followers, updates your blog and Facebook pages with the news and lets people know where to send flowers. That's a truly awesome idea - it 's a perfect modern web-connected take on a private detective type character that could be used equally well in modern noir, urban fantasy or combinations thereof.

You could even go near future (perhaps around 2020 or so) and have active but not AI software agents keeping some dead people's presence alive and this character has to deal with putting them down and perhaps runs into software agents that are too active in various problematic ways (such as going on revenge sprees that the dead person initiated as something that would happen after their death).

If you haven't seen it, there was a big NY Times magazine article on similar topics, a week or two ago. An interesting read.
