I would have a lot more respect for Michael's dealings with Fiona if he were the kind of spy who thought to use his own body as bait sometimes (Sam almost CERTAINLY does this), but no, no he's not. It isn't just a matter of "Do whatever we have to". It never occurs to him that it's something he might have to.
Yeah, I think I don't get MAD at Michael about that because I think it's more a writing failure than a character failure, which I realize is an odd distinction, but the way Michael reads to me, if he weren't being written as the hero (antihero) of a mainstream tv show, I think he probably would, you know?
I don't know the fandom at all, but I don't have to to get this, because it's such a basic assumption in media. Heck, in life. Beauty is a commodity, beauty in females even more so. A woman who is beautiful and a team player puts her body out there for the team to use as it sees fit. (a woman who isn't a team player, otoh, isn't a loner or an iconoclast, but a dangerous bitch.)
All that is to say that I liked this and it made me think. Also that I've friended you. :)
Hi! Welcome! Thanks for checking this out despite lack of fandom knowledge--I agree, this is a much larger issue than just the way it works out in the show.
*coughs* Um, I may have been stalking you because I love your fic, also. :) The Discipline and Punish stories are just guh. (This probably isn't the place for gushing about those, but if you show me to a place, I will promptly begin gushing.)
