My son's friend's mom came to pick my son up about 2:45 this afernoon. I was pleasantly surprised that she offered to have him stay for dinner because I thought the boys would play for a couple of hours and then I'd pick him up. Well, it's nearly seven-thirty and my hubby and I are really enjoying having the house to ourselves. It's much quieter ( Read more... )

Good for y'all! :) We joke that Luke has an assignment after church every Sunday: Find someone to go home with (although it could also be Find someone to come home with him). It's amazing how much quieter it is without him around--and even if he brings someone home with him, it means he's not complaining of being bored every 5 seconds.

My son's friend's mom said the same thing. She has two boys and when I went to pick up my son, she commented that she was able to get lots of things done because she wasn't being pestered every five minutes... the boys were self-entertaining! Yeah for friends!

I'm still amazed at how quiet it is in the morning when I am the only one awake.

I brought three teens to my second marriage to a man with three teens. All three of mine and two of his lived with us and brought significant others and children back to the big campus home when they were going back to grad school or between semesters and/or for the summer, etc. It took me a long time to stop buying milk and juice and cereal and bread.

Old habits die hard, I suppose. It sounds as if you had a houseful for quite a long time.

I think my favorite time of the day is the wee hours of the morning when I'm the only one up and the house is quiet. That's when I get my best writing done, at least.
