Waiting for Bobby to finish speaking with Mr Summers, Rogue stands in the hall and watches Julian flirt with one of the Cuckoos. Her eyes narrow in jealousy as his fingers graze Mindee's cheek to tuck a lock of blonde hair behind her ear. She restrains a frustrated sigh and leans back against the wall as she watches him touch the other girl's bare arm. Mindee lets out a giggle and leans in, and now the two of them are close, perilously close, and Rogue tears her eyes away and stares at the ceiling instead.

Sometimes, she wishes that Bobby were more like Julian - flirtatious, confident, suggestive; the kind of person whose frequent invasions into your personal space are exhilarating and exciting. Sometimes, she dreams about Bobby cornering her in a busy hallway, ignoring the students streaming around them as he trails his fingers up and down her side and whispers in her ear. She dreams about him coming up behind her while she's making a sandwich, pressing his body against hers just for a second.

The problem with these dreams is that they make her yearn even more for a normal life, a normal relationship where she can experience the simple thrill of her boyfriend's lips against her skin.

She is shaken out of her reverie by Bobby's hand slipping into hers, his skin cool through her glove. For the millionth time, she wishes she could tear the damn thing off and hold his hand properly.

"You okay?" he asks, letting go and angling himself in front of her. She's about to answer when he places his hands on her hips, his thumbs gliding lazily back and forth over the fabric of her shirt.

The almost-contact is so like her idle dream that it makes her catch her breath. She looks up at him, half-expecting to see a replica of Julian's playful smirk on her boyfriend's face. Instead, she is met by Bobby's beautiful crooked smile - not flirtatious or suggestive, but full of warmth, full of affection. And it's that smile that carries her through, beyond her dreams and the painful desire to touch and into that peaceful place where she knows that there is more than mere physical attraction between them. His smile is full of love.

The dreams are ebbing, replaced by the sweetness of this moment, this reality. "Yeah," she answers, smiling and raising a gloved hand to cup his cheek. "I'm okay."
