something so peaceful and lifting about a church, a sanctuary, a temple, or any place people worship; maybe it is the being drawn to something beyond just me, maybe it is the reflection on the way people of another generation, perhaps hundreds of years ago, thought about something sacred, something other.

The effect is quite nice; as a lighting designer I wish the designer of this church had been able to conceal the light fittings visible at the bottom of the upper windows along the apse. This church stands in contrast to the Duomo in Milan which has the dubious honor of being the gloomiest church I can recall. And don't get me started about the ugly light fittings in the Duomo...
