1979 was the first election where I was really engaged, even though I couldn't vote. I was a big, raving....Liberal (maybe I was intrigued by the fact that their leader had recently been caught in a homosexual scandal, who knows...).

I remember that SuperTramp's "Logical Song" was in the charts around that time, with the line about "calling you a radical, a liberal.."

I can't believe that it was 30 years ago!

And, I would have been incredulous if you'd told the 15 year old me that I would be in the land of fruits and nuts 30 years later. I've been very fortunate, touch wood.

A great memory. And of course it was a big year for France celebrating the bicentenary of the revolution. Little did we know a revolution was brewing in eastern Europe that year too.
