I'm horribly disappointed with my library's choice for Teen Night in February.  The boys really enjoyed the December meeting (Eragon) but missed the January one because it was first Thursday instead of later in the month (it was Charlotte's Web).  Now February is Napoleon Dynamite trivia night.  *sighs*  Is that even based on a book?  From what ( Read more... )

err... Napoleon Dynamite? It's kind of junk food for TV. I don't think that was ever a book!

Origami class sounds awsome though!

The boys love origami. I was worried when we first started going that they'd be the only boys, but they are one of 4 regular boys. The other kids shift in and out... sometimes some girls, sometimes both genders, no other regulars.

That was my impression, and that is why I have always avoided it

Napoleon Dynamite was hilarious, depending on your sense of humour. I don't think it would fit with yours. Yes, it's brainrot, but that is part of the hilarity of it - the unending stupidity.

However, I agree, not something I would do at a teen night via a library. I'd rather they focus on books.

I'm glad you get my sense of humor is a bit... dryer... than most folks. I just don't go more for the stuff like that (most SNL alumni movies bore me to tears) and too many folks don't get that about me and keep telling me I'm missing out.

I can count on one hand the SNL Alum movies that I would watch, and all star the Not Ready For Prime Time Players

Everyone's sense of humour is different. There's nothing wrong with that.

I like the old SNL, but I can't stand the new ones.

I have yet to see Napoleon Dynamite and seriously doubt I ever will but I don't believe it was based on a book. I am shocked the library picked it for trivia night. Yay, for Origami class...that should be fun!I live in a small town, the semi-local library has some events however most of them aren't worth driving to, which sucks!

The library connection really puzzles me. In December, they asked the kids at that meeting for ideas on upcoming BOOKS to include, and the librarian couldn't write fast enough for all the books/authors the kids could come up with. Granted, they were wanting book-movie connections if possible, but sheesh. There ought to BE a book involved if they use a movie for trivia.

The library system here was one of the reasons we were glad to move into the city versus the smaller town/suburb we were in. It has several branches, all of which have their own schedules for activities, and great kid/teen selections.

huh that is weird since ND wasnt based on a book (it was a film student project). Funny in a stupid way but an odd choice for the library program. I mean the whole point of that night seems to focus on books and not TV/movies which we are all too inundated with anyway. Maybe you could say something to the librarian?

I think I may when we go to the origami class (which is two days after the teen night) and explain that it would have been nice had the even been something even semi-educational that I could have brought the boys to.

I guess it really frustrates me because they asked the kids for a list of suggestions and all of them were just overwhelming the librarian with ideas, and a lot of them with related movies coming out or in development. ND wasn't among the suggestions, and considering the "teens" are 10-13, I don't see that ND would be high among their list of "must see movies", yanno?
