......and I say #1 because no doubt it will not be the last.

  • Earlier in the week, Mama asked me why I have never been involved in a book club, since I love books so much. Hm, I had never really thought about it before. So, I started looking around on the internet because I thought it was a brilliant idea. But, unfortunately......My suburbia ( Read more... )

I think this will be a great opportunity for me, because I don't know nearly as much about feminism as I should, being a female and all.

Being a female is a step in the right direction, and you've already got a good able-bodied mind about not caring/listening to what 'the man' wants you too. There. That's all you need. Everything else they'll tell you is just big-worded garbage.

Hahha, sorry. I had a bad experience with my feminist teacher in college =/ I had been hoping to, you know, learn shit and not just be stupid shit she had no clue what she was talking about. And she was uber-stubborn and didn't listen to what we were trying to tell her ... and to me, that's not what feminism is about. /bitchings.

Hopefully you'll get a better experience.

And, I, as you're fellow Aquarian (and I might be from Northern NJ, but my grandfather listens to more country music then most people should) am not a big fan of Rockabilly fashion, but, omg, I love the music.

HA HA!! Well, it's still nice to learn about something as a movement, and not just a belief. I feel that by being a woman who is against inequality for women that by default makes me a feminist. But, to study how our world came from societies where women were the wise and revered.....to now the exact opposite in our society would be fascinating. I'm not gonna go all fem-nazi I don't think--but then I said the same thing about being militant. And, eh, I turned out to be in my own white way. But, it just a chance to learn something new, to read, to grow in mind and spirit.

I agree with you though about your college proffersor. I think that feminism as a movement should be something that all women's voices are heard in. Or else, affective and unbias reasoning and beliefs can't happen.

Hee, the problem with learning about the "other" cultures that were women-centered, is the fact that the men-centered ones made sure those ones were discredited or they destroyed the records (like, for example, when the Romans came into power, they did a lot of that with the "old" ways (pre-Greeks) and even made the Greek mythology that was women-centered be less (IE: Why you hear more about Hera, but not about Hestia, the goddess of the hearth) so a lot of the stuff you'd find out is guess-a-mation more then exact history ( ... )
