If I can do any help in planning this let me know. I have been involved (observed, whatever) the planning of no less than a dozen weddings in the last three years. I have to admit I really enjoy planning weddings.
Oh yeah, families and their thoughts. Here is a handy phrase that through the years I have learned helps people - "Your suggestions/demands for my wedding will be taken into consideration in direct proportion to your financial contribution."
The only problem with that is it gives parents way too much say. =P It's our wedding, we don't want to be overruled because they're putting in the most money. That's a really big fear actually. That Arwen will, for example, not get the dress she wants because her mom will push for another one that she likes. But it is a good phrase to hold off the rest of the family. Also I've had too much coffee today so I'm rambling.
It's good that you're starting so early then, if you want June. I think having more than a full year will be plenty to get things reserved. Find out how quickly things get booked and don't put off booking what you want. ;)
We managed our June wedding with six months' planning, but we did it on a Thursday and only invited 65 people, about half of whom came, and did it on just over five grand. I had a ton of fun planning it but I'm afraid I would be of no use for anything bigger.
Although let me know if you plan to make any of your own cards or announcements - among my papercrafting supplies is a pretty sweet die-cutting machine and I have a variety of appropriate dies that I could cut shapes from to send you (a bunch of hearts, a "LOVE XING" sign, an engagement ring). We did our own invitations using a recurring motif from one of the dies - look for the picture of the water bottle favors in my wedding album on Facebook for an example of other uses of the die-cut.
If you think you will want a dress with short sleeves, let me know because I know of a brand that specializes in that, but there are only seven shops in Illinois that carry it.
I've been poking at dress stuff since I originally had NO IDEA what I wanted; now I'm starting to formulate an idea, but still, it's pretty up in the air. If I do decide on short sleeves, though, I may well hit you up. :)
Also, it sounds like your invitations are awesome! I might have to pester you for help with those, too!
I did get your message, sorry I didn't call you back over the weekend, things got crazy and as a result I honestly I forgot. I will be around the weekend of the 24th. The only thing that I have going on Saturday morning/afternoon is I have a football game at 1:45pm so that should be over with around 3pm, so if you would like me to come out and hang with you guys I can be there around 4pm-ish. Or if Sunday would be more Ideal I can do that too. ^_^ Would it be ok if I brought someone with me? I honestly don't recall if I mentioned a while back that I've been seeing this guy name Derek. He's really nice and REALLY quite, you'll probably forget he's there (LOL). Anyway, I can't wait to see you both and the ring ~_^
Either of those times are awesome. And I wouldn't mind meeting this Derek, either, though no, you haven't mentioned him. :) (What is it with you and finding guys with the same name as my exes? First a Dave, then a Derek...) Anyway! Yes, let's hang out Saturday or Sunday - or maybe both days! :) Though Dre and I would need to get going Sunday afternoon, of course, as the drive is pretty long and I'll have work on Monday. So Saturday'd probably be preferable.
