sulking

Not that it's been a bad day. On the home front things have been nice. Some of the grown kids were around, one granddaughter was here, too.  Good eats, good company, good coffee. Drove to town to watch some fireworks, heard from an out of state friend.

Just visited my aunt's allotment (in much more temperate north London!). She has the particularly tempting fruit bushes covered in low wire netting with a cloth curtain on one side so she can draw it aside and pick them when they're ripe. A lot cheaper than chainlink fence, though if the rabbits are really devoted to the idea of free food they will probably dig. I think this was very effective against birds for her, though.

You need proper fencing to keep them out. It needn't be high because they can't jump more than about 2 - ' but it has to go underground - 2-3 inches below the surface and extending about 18" forward, horizontally in a kind of apron, on the outer side (the side the bunnies are coming from).

Yes, they will! I've got my wire buried (depending on the wind deflation on any particular day) between 2 and 6 inches. I didn't put it out horizontally as far as 18" though. Maybe about a foot. I'm thinking dog and cat. And watch-geese. I used to have little kids to chase everything. Now they're not little anymore!

Trees - almost consistently excellent in all climates. There's quite a bit online about desert permaculture.
http://www.sonoranpermaculture.org/ is a good one, or google Dan Dorsey (Az) or Geoff Lawton who permacultures in the Dead Sea valley.

Trees are the best! Thanks for the link. Tucson is a great place to be doing anything like this now. They are really cooking!

I am a city person with no experience beyond houseplants, but I have to say that I think your whole project is awesome.
