there are certain restrictions that the former employee agrees to - including severe penalties if s/he speaks ill of the company.

that doesn't stop close friends and family from going to the news about it contact the better business bureau
i don't mean to make light of the situation, but in all seriousness.. companies like that don't deserve to stay afloat.
if they don't care about screwing their employees who says they give a damn about their customers?

i wouldn't say its feudalism... thats flat out fascism -_-

Ah, yes. This is exactly the sort of agreement he had to sign. Apparently it mentions that I have to be silent as well, although I signed nothing.

He worked for this company more years than we have been married and as we are quite agéd that was a very long time. ;-) We are under no illusion that they have meant him well for at least the last 26 of those years. But I don't think they are in danger of going out of business - after the merger, they are the only large company of this sort in the world. Remember: it's not a monopoly...those are illegal, as we all learned in school.
