There. My anger has been exorcised. Batman shall die like the rest of us, and you know what? He's still my hero ( Read more... )

Oooh, you know if he did reach the end, or if DC let Batman go, you know this is the only way.

Doing the job.

And that is exactly why he's a hero. Because in the end, he had no regrets. Because he died doing the job, the way he lived. Because he was motivated by good, and he kept hoping for a better tomorrow all the way to the end. Just like most of us.

He was a man who did something extraordinary, and his legacy lives on. But the world remains the same... and I think that's a good thing.

The Batman cowl ended up mounted in a wall in the Iceberg. The rogues threw loops at the mount, and if they didn’t miss any of their shots, their drink was on the house.

Jason Todd killed Two Face two months later.

There was never another Batman.

The tide kept turning.

*sighs* There's not much I can say to this in some ways. It's sad, and poignant, and as scotchsour says, it's how canon should be if DC ever decides to do it. He's just one of many protecting Gotham, doing his job the best he can like all of us.

And hey, if you're inspired to write I'm happy. *grins*

Hello, my rant-pal! :) *hugs* I had to do it! The Bruce muse is smiling quietly, because though it is sad... in my head, in a way, it kind of isn't. It's a relief to know that the world doesn't weight on your shoulders that no matter how bad you screw up or do right, there's still many others with the same power that you have (and I'm speaking about metas here too. They are not unique, and more will come with time) Every one of us has a chance to make a better world, and maybe we won't change it for good, but he tried. And he inspired others to try. It's... not so sad, is it ( ... )

And most of all, I love that there was never another Batman.

I don't think there ever could be. I also don't think that Bruce is training replacements. I just read Batman: Ego, and that Bruce Wayne would never wish his life on anyone else.

In my book, it should be Harvey. I hope, when the time comes, he goes like a man. I'm glad you liked it, too! I'm afraid that I got a bit bitchy earlier today at a plot issue, and had the need to feel proud of Bruce's captability to fail, his mortality and his ephemeral victories. Those are things that I like too *fidgets*. Decadent is the best compliment I could ever get! allright! :D

I am totally with you in Batman Beyond. That Bruce is depresing, and not my animated Batman at all. First, I don't see how Batman could get to his old age. Maybe Kingdom Come. Maybe. But not really. But if he does, he will be rich guy plotting new ways to improve mankind, not freaking bitter Batman trainer. Pfeh ( ... )

I understand your desire to have it be Eddie. I liked this story a lot, because it emphasizes the human side of Bruce. He fought the good fight. He knew he was never going to win, exactly, but he had done what he could. In the end, could he ask for more ( ... )

*blinks* Well, the good thing about Eddie not being a killer is that... It was Two Face who did it :P I think you had a bit of a mental slip. You want Eddie to kill Bruce, don't you? Lol.

In the end, could he ask for more?

Could we? I would like to have no regrets and do what I could. That would be good enough for me.

As for the story, *huuugs and dances* Thank you! Yes! That Bruce goes willingly, more prepared than mine. And he goes satisfied, helping others, as he lived. You have to post it in your journal! Dick explaning the death... it hurts, yet I know Dick would be proud. The 1st an 2nd of November are the Dia de los Muertos and Dia de Todos los Santos in Mexico. Death-fic is very apropos for the season :) I really like the feeling of your story. It feels very.. hopefull. I can almost hear Bruce laughing in the night, before dissapearing forever...

Mina, this was excellently done. I don't have the background in Batman to deconstruct all the ways that this scenario is better than any other. All I can say is that I found it so poignant that it was hard to read because I'm not in a place right now where I want to contemplate Batman dying the way you wrote it -- to the real.

All I can say is, as always, you write so well and with such feeling. Bravo.

Thanks a lot T! I really like to see Bruce going in a big way, the man who willed himself into godhood, but I'm equally fond of him just dissapearing in the night, a man who willed himself to great things, but a man in the end. I don't usually like writing death fic because they turn into self serving angst fests, but I rather like this story. I guess anger is a good emotion for writing for me :P thanks for your kind comments!
