(Upload) Ghost Fires 4) Smoldering

Jul 08, 2006 13:01

I was just checking the claims at merfilly's JLU Pair-a-thon challenge and Batman/Flash is not yet claimed?? What!! Neither is Flash/GL!! these are the "easiest" prompts, so to speak, even Flash/Shayera! I can understand why GL/WW is a scary prompt, but all the victoria_wayne fans should be ashamed that Batman/Flash isn't yet claimed. Go! Take a claim! There's still plenty to go around.

Anyway, here's the 4th prompt for Ghost Fires. The next one is Flash, and I have an idea but I have yet to write it. And I found a way to pair Batman/Orion!! Woo! Now I just need plot for Mr. Terrific (I have some ideas but no muse for it yet) and for Aquaman. Lex, Wally, Orion and Boston already have bunnies hopping around. I'm so proud of my twisted brain.

Oh, also, on the Jason Blood topic. My brother just got the first TPB of Books of Magic, and I didn't know Jason was part of the Trenchcoat Brigade! I wanted him to be, and I told my brother he was, but he said I was crazy. I might be, but Jason is there! Which leads to my new Vertigo slash pairing that owns all. Anyone ever seen Jason Blood/John Constantine? Don't look at me like I'm crazy. The accent! the snark! the danger! the gorgeous!

...ahem. Anyway, just a quick bitching. How come the batslash list is pretty much a Bruce/Dick list? Everyone listed crazy Batman pairings in the Top 10 slash pairings you love. What's up with that?

4)Jason Blood (Smoldering)

Jason couldn’t hold back a smirk as he walked from the battlefield, heading towards the shadows. It took some nerve for this so-called Justice League to appoint a demon as a reservist in their roster. Jason hadn’t asked for it nor had he been informed until that day, when his help was required.

He hadn’t refused, though, and this team up with humanity’s demi-gods was making Etrigan fume. Jason supposed that Etrigan’s ire was one of the reasons why he had accepted their invitation; he never turned his back on a chance to annoy the Demon, just like the Demon was relentless in his never-ending torture of Jason’s soul. It wasn’t exactly a fair deal, but the magician had long ago learned that life was seldom fair. Also, he had to admit, he had a soft spot for the Dark Knight, and that was a much rarer occurrence than the chance to get under the Demon’s skin, so to speak.

Humanity had stopped looking desirable many years ago, and a part of Jason’s conscience wanted to feel guilty about it, but he had had enough time to rationalize his demising feelings. He had seen the worst and the best of mankind. Evil thrived; good was frail and usually extinguished or ignored in the everyday chaos. He couldn’t be blamed if he found them tiresome after a millennia and a half.

Take this Justice League, for example. With their bright colors and their naïve notions of truth and justice, they were too young to understand the true nature of the human race. Jason could see into their souls, and though their intentions were good, he knew their legacy could be easily lost with the turn of the tide. The world was a fleeting mistress, and yet so very predictable.

But the Knight, Jason liked the Knight, even if he was as naïve as his colleagues, just as lost in the details that prevented them from seeing the big picture. He had fire inside; he was unfaltering, or as unfaltering as humans could be, in his search for peace. The former Knight of the Britons could sympathize with that; peace had eluded him for too long.

Etrigan liked him too, and that was disturbing. Jason and Etrigan didn’t usually agree. The Demon saw a Beast inside the Knight, and cheered for it. To see a man consumed by fire had always been one of Etrigan’s favorite things, even if the fire was his soul.

Jason found the Dark Knight in the shadows, sitting in the debris, looking at his teammates and the field with sharp eyes, probably planning for battles to come. Yes, they liked the Knight.

“Would you mind if I joined you?” Jason asked, a predatory smile on his lips. Batman just nodded, not even looking up, too focused on his own thoughts.
