the woes of money

Hilda has gone on to a happier home with an Audi enthusiast from Boston, and I've got a $500 check.

The only trouble is deciding what to do with it. Should I be responsible and use it to offset my sorry financial situation? Should I be charitable? Should I buy those gorgeous knee-high boots I've been drooling over ( Read more... )

I voted for the boots. I say get yourself the boots, and then plop the rest onto your college loans.

Of course, I might just be saying this because I find knee-high boots and a longish skirt to be quite possibly the sexiest outfit combo on a woman yet devised. Dunno. That might have something to do with it....

At 10% interest, paying $500 in debt is like earning another $50 a year.

This is true. Fortunately, the loan I'll be paying on is only around 8%, but it will still make a huge difference.

I think you should donate at least some of it... maybe 10%? and put the rest in your loans - certainly that before your savings!

By the way, may I mention that I think your earlier choices when faced with a similar situation (laptop & paying off credit cards) actually sound quite reasonable?
