Thirty Days of Anime - Day 6 - Most Annoying Anime Character

Within the context of the original Macross, Lynn Minmei is annoying but necessarily so. Certainly her presence within the original is not enough to qualify as the most annoying anime character ever.
( Unfortunately her influence went further than that... )

I had a friend who was into macross (NOT the dub), but on the whole I think I found the stories too angsty for me. (I'm not saying bad. Just not my thing. Angst + giant robot suits is not a draw for me)

Providing I'm thinking of the right anime(s)

Quite possibly. One of the surprising things about Macross/Robotech is that they didn't pull the world ending punch (although the most heartbreaking piece of footage WAS cut from Robotech).

Oh, the major battle was won, sorta, but it didn't end well for most of the world.

However it did end on a hopeful note and overall I'd probably classify it as military SF with a dose of romance rather than angst.

There are the giant robots though (on a MAJOR scale :) ).
